If you have not returned your application, please do so as soon as possible.  Parent meetings will begin April 29, 2013, 5:30 p.m. at the Gilmore Foundation Conference Center, 203 Gilmore Drive, Amory, and will observe the following schedule:

Monday, April 29th:   Amory applicants

Tuesday, April 30th:  Hamilton applicants

Thursday, May 2nd:  Hatley applicants

Friday, May 3rd: Smithville applicants

GELI Promise School Graduations Scheduled!

It’s hard to believe, but our first class of GELI Promise School children will graduate in May!  See the information listed below and call us at 257-5437 with any questions.

All graduations will be held at the Gilmore Foundation Conference Center, 203 Gilmore Drive, Amory, Mississippi.

Children should arrive no later than 5:30 p.m. on the evening of their class’s graduation.  Children will put on caps and gowns just prior to graduation.

There is no limit on the number of family members a child can invite.  Each graduation ceremony will be followed by a small reception.

Smithville GPS:     Monday, May 13, 2013, 6:00 p.m.

Hatley GPS:            Tuesday, May 14, 2013, 6:00 p.m.

Hamilton GPS:      Thursday, May 16, 2013, 6:00 p.m.

Amory GPS:            Friday, May 17, 2013, 6:00 p.m.

GELI Promise School Parents Meeting; Thursday, January 10, 2013

There will be a GELI Promise School parents meeting on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at the Gilmore Foundation Conference Center, 203 Gilmore Drive, in Amory.

The topic, presented by Dr. Cathy Grace is “Ways to Teach Literacy at Home”.

Amory parents should come at 6:00 p.m.

Monroe County parents should come at 7:30 p.m.

Literacy Success in Unit 1 of OWL!

The purpose of the GELI Promise Schools and OWL is to prepare pre-k students for kindergarten. OWL offers weekly Success Predictors in all areas including literacy. Promise School teachers will monitor children’s progress on Success Predictors provided by OWL that have been identified by research to be predictive of success in kindergarten and beyond. The literacy Success Predictors for Unit 1 are:

  • Segment Sentences
  • What is a letter?
  • Blend and segment two-syllable compound words
  • Uppercase letters
  • Blend and segment familiar two-syllable words
  • Lowercase letters

Promise School teachers prepare students for success in literacy by building background knowledge, introducing and modeling concepts, providing guided practice, and expanding concepts. GELI Promise School students are on their way to K, with OWL!
